Until a bad bull leaves him injured, angry and searching for comfort at the bottom of a bottle. With nowhere to go, he moves into his sister-in-law’s old ranch house in Whispering Springs—which he’s surprised to find already occupied.
As Cash rebuilds the dilapidated home and Paige starts out on her medical career, their old friendship begins to reemerge and sparks are ignited. Paige knows that Cash is nothing but a heartache waiting to happen. But maybe this bad boy has grown up to be a real good man?

“Here’s the deal, slick,” she said with a lift of an eyebrow. “I’m still attracted to you and, if I’m reading your kisses accurately, the feeling is mutual.” She sat back on her heels with a sigh. “I want to finish what we started seven years ago. Don’t freak out,” she added quickly when he opened his mouth to speak. “I’m not looking for long-term or asking for a commitment. Come fall, school’s going to be time consuming and tough. I won’t have the time or the energy for a relationship.” She shrugged. “So for as long as it lasts, I propose roommates with benefits. What do you say?”

Before I decide one way or the other, I want to make sure we’re clear on a few points. We have no future. There is no us. No long-term happy-ever-after. This isn’t a fairy tale, Paige. It’s real life.” He hated sounding so hard, so brusque, but she had to understand he had nothing to offer her. “If we do this, it’s just sex. Not making love or any other pretty label you might want to put on it. If it lasts through the summer, fine. We’ll go our separate ways when you leave for school. If either of us wants out before then, it’s over. No questions. No tears. No regrets.”

I'm Officially A Mother of a College Student

How in the heck did that happen?

Time is such a weird thing. I remember reaching down and grasping my toddler's little hand as he learned to walk. It was yesterday, wasn't it?

Now I can visualize his long legs proudly carrying him across campus. He's finding his first room, learning the ropes, meeting other students. Wow, that was me the day before yesterday, wasn't it?

Clearly, no.Time has zoomed by. And I have loved every minute of it. Every second.

I can't wait to hear about his day.
Mine is a bit lonely, but I won't tell him that. I'll tell him to enjoy every second and try to make them last.

Hugs to all you parents out there.

Worldwide Character Blog Tour

Oh, the characters are walking amongst us. Look out!

Elaine Cantrell tagged me to participate in the Character Blog Tour. Elaine's blog: Hope. Dreams.Life...Love
You can also find her on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/elainepcantrell

For this tour the author is supposed to talk about a new Work In Progress or released book. I am going to talk about GOD WHISPERER.
1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
Lonnie Hogan is fictional, but many of her emotions about being a mother of a child with a disability are pretty close to being real. I’ve felt many of the same emotions.
2) When and where is the story set?
GOD WHISPERER is present time in a small Danish village in California called Solberg.
3) What should we know about him/her?
Lonnie has some pretty big secrets (hopefully, some the reader won't see coming). She is running from her dangerous past and is only concerned about protecting her son and trying to give him a normal life.
4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
Lonnie is hiding from a bad guy who has been chasing her for years. Imagine how hard it would be to change your name, fall off the grid, and bury yourself deep into a small town where you don't know a soul. Oh, and then think how scary it would be to believe doctors botched your little boy's surgery because he now thinks he can hear God. And people around you are starting to believe it too which brings the paparazzi out of the woodwork.
5) What is the personal goal of the character?

To give her son the most “normal” life possible.

6) Is there a title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
GOD WHISPERER was just released by Astraea Press.
7) When can we expect the book to be published?
Now, people! Please go pick up your copy.

Welcome Rebecca Talley

Rebecca Talley and I went to high school together. She is a beautiful person who writes great clean, heart-touching books that you should check out.

Like this one:

Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She’s passionate about her career as a middle school English teacher, she adores her handsome, hard-working husband, and with a baby finally on the way, her perfect life is within her grasp.

But then a devastating test result changes everything.

Forced to choose between her baby and her husband, Lauren makes the only decision she can live with, and she returns to her small hometown in hopes of rebuilding her shattered life.

Ethan Campbell is a gifted photographer who travels the world and has no desire to settle down. When his mother dies, he must go home to settle her estate. Then it’s back to exciting adventures across the globe.

When Lauren crosses paths with Ethan, her teenage crush, old feelings resurface—feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will Lauren have the courage to trust again or will she spend her life alone?

Imperfect Love is a story about sacrifice, healing, second chances, and discovering that although love isn’t always perfect, sometimes it’s the imperfect love that’s the sweetest of all.

The Story Behind GOD WHISPERER

Amazon:
Barnes and Noble:
Kobo:

I've been wanting to write this post for a long time. It's personal and a bit long, but I figured readers would want to know how I came up with the premise for GOD WHISPERER.

10% of the author royalties will be donated to the American Society for Deaf Children.

While the book is pure fiction--Lonnie is NOT me, David is NOT my son, and I am happily married--there is a river of truth flowing through the pages. The emotions? Those are mine. The fear of losing a child, the elation and gratitude of a surgery that changes everything, the joy? Mine, mine, mine.

Okay, deep breath, here goes...

I am blessed beyond words to be the mother of two super-amazing boys. They are smart, kind, loving, handsome teenagers now. From birth, they were determined to baffle the doctors with their uniqueness. Each boy came into the world with a super-rare condition/disorder--nothing life-threatening, thank God. The oldest has a visual tracking disorder so rare that only 50 cases were noted in the medical journals.

The youngest of the two has perfect eyes. He was born with an incomplete, deaf ear. We recognized the problem immediately because his little ear had no hole. They tested his hearing in the hospital. He didn't pass. He had one normal ear, though, and the doctors said he would get along fine.

Except...

A one-eared child doesn't hear in stereo and can't determine where sounds come from. If he doesn't look carefully before stepping into the street, he might not hear a car coming straight for him. He doesn't hear soft voices on the "bad" side and misses instructions in class. He could get in trouble for talking in class because he doesn't hear the teacher talking. He only hears half of the world.

I was worried for him. I worried about both of my children. They had years of occupational and speech therapy ahead, resource and instructional help, physical education therapy, and who knew what else? Things were going to be hard for them. Would they be bullied in school? Would people be mean?

During a silent prayer session at church, I cried my eyes out. I begged God for help. I wasn't strong enough, smart enough, or brave enough for these beautiful boys. I felt so inadequate and helpless. They deserved far more than me for a mother. At the end of that prayer session we were asked to reach into a basket to receive a spiritual fortune cookie. My fortune knocked me back.

It said, "I have put my trust in you."

It was as if God had typed on that strip of paper Himself. He had trusted me to be the mother for these boys and He couldn't be wrong. And no, I wasn't going it alone. I have a fabulous husband, wonderful parents on both sides, sisters, friends, doctors, educators, and specialists all around.

When my youngest was a couple of years old, a doctor said that there were new surgeries to open up my son's ear canal, but it was dangerous because the facial nerve runs near the ear. A surgery could cause facial paralysis. We went to UCLA. The head surgeon had performed a handful of similar operations. None, just like my son's. Our son had no canal and no ear drum. The middle ear was complete with the necessary bones to hear sounds, but they were misshapen because there was no canal. It was risky, but the surgeon believed he could fix everything.

Hubby asked the best question, "Would you do it for your child?"
The surgeon didn't blink. "Yes, I would."

It's terrifying to have anyone operate on your child. He was so little in that bed, so scared. I couldn't go with him, couldn't hold his hand, make it all better. Gah! It's hard to be a parent.

The surgeon said the operation was a success and the ear bones were vibrating to sounds on the table! When my boy heard with both ears for the first time I wept with joy. The ear is not perfect, but it's not deaf anymore. It was a miracle.

I believe I was chosen to be mother to these two amazing kids. I have learned and grown almost as much as they have. I hope my story touches hearts and helps parents in difficult situations. Trust that we are here for a reason. Each and every child is special, a unique gift to be treasured.

Most of all, I wish you love.

Thank you dear readers. I am so happy to announce that my short story, DOWN AND DIRTY, became a Top 20 short reads in romance book on Amazon today. It is my one and only attempt at writing and publishing a short story. I'm so tickled that I didn't bomb at it.

Thankful Thursday

The SEALS OF SUMMER Superbundle hit both the NY Times and USA TODAY bestselling lists!!!

Holy sweet Lord, what a miracle.

It is hard to put into words how awesome that feels. Really, I've tried and I just end up stammering. Instead, I want to say my thanks.

I am blessed and so very grateful.
I am thankful that God gave me a small talent and a gigantic passion to spread love. He also gave me a large dose of mulish stubbornness that has come in handy over the past ten years. Publishing is a hard road littered with broken dreams.

But most of all, I am thankful that He gave me YOU.
I doubt I would have kept writing if you hadn't been there to support me, cheer me on, and hand me a box of tissues when the rejections flooded my inbox. Writing a book takes a community--a support team, beta readers, critique partners, editors, cover artists and the readers. I couldn't have done any of it without all of you. Luv ya! XO

The SEALs Of Summer had the same community times ten! You all rock! Thank you.

Finally, I am so grateful for the fabulous authors in this set. You are passionate, brilliant, loving, kind and generous. Thank you for letting me stand beside you and for taking my hand. I will always be grateful. Love you bunches!

Writer's Process Blog Hop

Lynne Connnolly award-winning author of Paranormal, Historical and Contemporary Romance tagged me to talk about my writing process. You can check out her blog here: Lynne Connolly's blog

 The Questions:
*1) What are you working on?

LOCK AND LOAD, Book 2 in the SEAL EXtreme Team series.

*2) How does your work differ from others in the genre?

LOCK AND LOAD is Military Romance. It is a little different from other books I've read in the genre in that the Navy SEAL continues to perform his military duties and fight his battles with the heroine by his side. Action and danger are a big part of the story line. I love suspenseful books. And I simply adore SEAL stories--biographies, autobiographies, and pure fiction.

*3) Why do you write what you write?

I have always been intrigued by Navy SEALs, who are known as the best-of-the-best. The jobs they perform are both highly dangerous and extremely important. I can only imagine how hard their lives must be and how difficult it is to love a SEAL. This series is my way of honoring the courageous men who serve our country. It's such a little thing, but it is what I can do to give back and say thank you to them and their families.

*4) How does your writing process work?

The writing starts in my brain a long time before any words hit the page. I play with the concept and imagine the characters. Once I have a general idea of what the story will be about, I jot down scene ideas. This part is fast-- snippets and incomplete sentences.

Next, I do character sketches to get to know the people in the story. Their habits, motivation, wants, and internal conflict all need to be fleshed out pretty well before I can really begin.

This next part is probably the hardest: the synopsis. I sit down and write a paragraph for every scene in the book making sure to highlight the conflict and emotion in EACH paragraph. By doing this I can see where I am going. Plot holes tend to pop out at this stage and I can fix them before I write the book. After all that, I start writing. I go from scene to scene, trying not to stop for the day until the scene is complete. I write fast and hard, not slowing down to edit. I have completed an entire novel in five weeks. But! It's a first draft, like a skeleton without skin and muscles.

I give myself a couple of weeks to let the draft percolate on the back burner before I start edits. The editing process can take longer than the writing process! It's where I layer on the deep emotions (muscles), description and color (skin). Imagine a painter layering on color and depth.

The book will then go to a handful of super fabulous beta readers who read very carefully. These folks keep me from going outside without my pants on, or with my skirt stuck inside my underwear. After I've straightened out my, um, wardrobe disasters, the book goes to an editor. While it is being professionally edited, I work on the next book.

Sound like fun? Maybe not to everyone, but it is pure bliss to me. Except, you know, when I'm pulling my hair out because the characters won't behave. Or my skirt is stuck in my underwear. :-)

Thanks, Lynne, that was fun.

SOLD!!! God Whisperer coming to you this summer.

I am busting at the seams to announce that I sold God Whisperer to Astraea Press.

This book has been such a labor of love. My little boy was the inspiration for the story. He was born with one incomplete ear--no ear canal or ear drum. It was a miracle when the doctors at UCLA created a canal and drum out of my son's own tissue and he was able to hear sounds on the operating table!

God Whisperer is a romantic suspense about a woman and her son who are hiding for their lives when the boy becomes famous from an ear surgery that allows him to hear God.

It has won and placed in romance contests. Finally, it has found the perfect home at Astraea Press.

Keep your eyes out for it this summer.

Hugs!

Kimberley
